The 4 Success Principles to Landing Dream 1:1 Clients On REPEAT
Written by: Selina Feng • March 14, 2023
What if landing 1:1 clients (on repeat) felt sustainable, simple, and fun? That all the things you thought you needed to do, don't actually apply to your special & intimate 1-1 offer? … Despite what all the “experts” say!
Here’s what I mean…
Have you ever felt frustrated about all the things other marketing and/or business coaches preach about?
We hear it all the time: freebies, funnels, free masterclasses, a nice website…oh, and don’t forget about your branding, design, and everything else.
I know because I’ve been there and many of my clients have been through this phase too.
We end up trying all the things, making our business and marketing a lot more complex than it needs to be. But here’s the thing… our intimate 1:1 offer is freaking special.
And it gets to 100% feel that way!
If you love serving your clients in this high-touch capacity, but worry your business model isn’t sustainable, I want to help you break down all the reasons WHY it could be—specifically sharing 5 success principles that have helped me generate six figures in just 2 years.
(with $90k cash just from my 1:1 coaching clients)
And no, you don’t need to produce a bunch of other offers like a course, group coaching program, or partnerships to find sustainability and freedom.
My clients and I found it through understanding and applying the principles of how to attract & book consistent 1:1 client sales.
Not just ANY clients, either
But the best kind of clients—our 1:1 clients.
Let’s break this down now…
Principle #1: Offer Alignment for Guaranteed Success
Before we get started with marketing and sales, you first have to focus on the service you provide. No strategy or principle will help elevate an offer that nobody’s searching for.
While there are many problems in the world that we could solve, which problems ultimately make sense for YOU to solve?
An offer that aligns with your expertise, skills, and curiosity… and that has a place in the market.
We’re all still running a business here—whether you’re a coach or a done-for-you service provider—and you’re putting all this energy to grow and scale our business, so why not choose the thing that gives you the most financial ROI?
The way I love to break this down is with the Big 4:
Money
Love
Health
Time/Energy (which is just another currency of money)
If your offer solves a problem or provides transformation in either of these big 4 categories, congratulations! You are right where you belong.
Whereas if you’re reflecting on your offer and thinking “hmm not quite” … Maybe it’s time to hone in on the exact problem you’re solving and think about how you can better align your expertise and skills to at least one of the big 4 categories.
If it still feels unclear, don’t worry the next principle may help you solidify this.
Principe #2: Cultivate Clear DESIRE From Your Messaging
The principle of desire is as simple as this:
Market + Sell them what they WANT, give them what they NEED.
While we may think our clients need to know ALL the amazing things we can help them solve and transform, the truth is creating desire starts with focusing on our ideal clients’ 1-2 biggest wants.
Once they’re inside our world, we can give them everything.
For example, on paper and through my messaging, I’m a marketing coach and my big 4 problem is “money”.
But in terms of everything I help my clients with? Marketing is just one layer of it.
I often coach my clients on mindset, love, even energy/time, and leadership because my coaching is a lot deeper than the contextual layer.
However, to make things simple for my 1:1 clients… I focus and tailor my messaging to their biggest wants: that is more sales and money for their business.
See how simple that can be to create DESIRE from the get-go?
Principle #3: The Importance of Connection, Intimacy & Trust
Let’s pause for a second and think about all the marketing & sales strategies that are typically taught in our space…
From free content, live streams, FB groups, live launches, challenges, emails, funnels, and ads……
The list goes on!
How often do we pause and think about what’s important when it comes to gaining the trust and love of our dream 1:1 clients?
Do they need to consume more of our “free” things?
Do they need to attend our challenges or masterclasses?
Do they need to opt-in to our email funnel as the most loyal subscribers?
The answer is probably not—at least not from my experience in converting 1:1 sales & all the clients I’ve helped.
Sure, all those strategies can work in converting 1:1 clients but I’ll share with you the #1 thing they truly care about…
1:1 clients care about feeling an intentional connection to YOU.
That they can trust you.
That you have empathy and understand them.
That you can be the guide that elevates them to their dream destination.
A lot of our marketing efforts can “warm” up our potential clients…
But often, client conversions take place in a setting where you’re speaking to them 1:1.
Example: text, DMs, discovery calls
The energetic exchange, the vibration, the respect, and the excitement from that intimate setting IS what sells to our 1:1 clients.
They just want to feel connected to you… Heart to heart; soul to soul.
Reflect on this for a moment within your business: what are ways in which you are inviting connection, intimacy, and trust with you and your dream 1:1 clients?
Principle #4: Let Your Curiosity Lead The Way
Another question I’m often asked is: I don’t want to come off sleazy or salesy when I make personal connections or reach outs in the DMs to potential clients…
I totally get it.
As our space gets bombarded with thousands of DMs every day, you don’t want to be THAT person—and that’s not the way we go about things in my world, either.
What I value is integrity, authenticity, and, most importantly… curiosity.
The intention behind making 1:1 connections & reach outs isn’t about the sale.
It’s bringing a greater level of understanding for you to listen and feel what your potential clients need right now… It’s being so deeply curious about what’s going on in your potential client’s world and seeing what you can do to help.
It’s seeing the energetic exchange from a pure service lens…
Now, if you feel so strongly that there’s an opportunity to offer your services, go ahead and guide that conversation to a discovery call.
But again, it comes from a place of Curiosity & Service.
When you’re so curious you can’t help but think “hmm I really wonder if I can help this person today”…. When you are so obsessed with serving that you can’t help but think “wow I would love to help this person and literally change his/her entire life…”
That’s where it all starts.
It’s your intentions behind ALL that you do.
Because that is exactly the energy that will translate over.
The thought of feeling salesy or sleazy? That’s not even a concern at that point.
You’re here to transform lives!
So let your inner curiosity lead the way to fulfill your mission, your calling, and the purpose of why you’re here in the first place.
Conclusions & Next Steps
These 4 success principles have been my bread and butter in how I’ve generated consistent revenue in the last two years of my coaching business (just from 1:1 sales!).
These are the exact principles I use to guide my own clients…
And the work we do with our 1:1 clients is so special!
That means we need to handle the way we market and sell to them with care.
We need to take a more personalized, intimate, and intentional approach.
Whether you’re getting started with 1-1 clients or have been doing it for years… let these four principles shed light on what’s missing in your offer, messaging, marketing, and sales.
Now, if you’re craving a more step by step strategy that you can immediately start applying today to your 1:1 service-based business model, I’ve shared my one-of-a-kind DM (direct messenger) conversion method inside this guide!
